Group name: BeachCare - Labrador Residents Action Group dune care, Harley Park
A community dune care group was established in late 2009 after interests from the Labrador Residents Action Group. They were keen to encourage community participation and increase awareness of the importance of dunes and dune vegetation. Community planting and weeding activities have been facilitated by BeachCare at the site ever since, on the third Saturday of every second month.
Location: Marine Parade, Labrador (Harley Park just north of Charis Seafood)
Description of area: The Site is located along Marine Parade adjacent to Harley Park, just north of Charis Seafood in Labrdor. The dune is fringed with Casuarinas and carpeted with low-lying native dune runners like Beach Bean and Beach Spinifex. This dune suffers significantly with invasive weeds such as Siratro and is unfortunately also subjected to litter.
Objectives: To improve the health and biodiversity assets of the foredunes, as well as engage community members about the importance of dune vegetation.
When are we on the dunes:
Saturday 21st August from 9am – 11 am
Saturday 16th October from 9am – 11 am
